8 months and 2 years old after a UTV goes underwater while crossing a river

CLEVELAND COUNTY, Oklahoma (KSWO/Gray News) – Authorities in Oklahoma say two children have died after becoming trapped underwater in an all-terrain vehicle.

According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, last Sunday’s accident involved a UTV carrying six people, including four children.

The off-road vehicle was attempting to cross the South Canadian River when it unexpectedly sank three metres and became submerged.

Four of the six occupants were able to save themselves; two of the children were led to the shore by the adults.

However, the occupants then had difficulty finding the UTV, which still contained an 8-month-old and a 2-year-old child.

Oklahoma authorities said the children were safely strapped into child seats in the car.

After 20 minutes, the UTV was pulled out of the water, but the children who were still in the vehicle ultimately died, according to authorities.

The children and adults involved were not immediately identified by authorities.
