Man is accused of sexually assaulting a cashier at a New Orleans store

NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) – The New Orleans Police Department announced Thursday, May 23, that an arrest has been made as part of a rape investigation.

According to officials, 21-year-old Ernest Dixon entered a store on St. Ann Street at 3 p.m. on Monday, May 20, and allegedly threatened the woman behind the cash register with a gun.


During the incident, officers said Dixon allegedly sexually assaulted the woman and took her phone before leaving the scene.

Through investigation, sex crimes detectives, with assistance from the New Orleans Police Department’s Sex Offender Registration Unit and the U.S. Marshals, were able to identify, locate and arrest Dixon.

He is now charged with first-degree rape and theft.

Additionally, Dixon was wanted and arrested for domestic violence in connection with an incident in April. He was charged with aggravated assault, unlawful possession of stolen property and aggravated assault and child endangerment.
