Suspects arrested in Philadelphia shoplifting ring – NBC10 Philadelphia

Law enforcement authorities will soon announce the arrest of several individuals for their alleged role in a shoplifting ring.

Philadelphia Police Deputy Chief Frank Vanore, Inspector Ray Evers and First Assistant District Attorney Robert Listenbee are expected to speak at the press conference, which is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. on Friday, July 26.

In February of this year, District Attorney Larry Krasner announced the creation of the city’s first Organized Retail and Residential Theft Task Force, which aims to aggressively crack down on receiving stolen goods, in which thieves buy or receive stolen goods and resell them. ADA Kim Esack – the head of the task force – and ADA Patrick King – another member of the task force – are also expected to speak at Friday’s press conference.

Just last month, Philadelphia police announced the arrest of a “major shoplifting gang” that had used children and teens to target stores across the city.

As of July 21, 2024, there were 12,459 reported cases of shoplifting in Philadelphia, about 31 percent more than the same period last year, according to Philadelphia police data.
