Connecticut man found guilty of sexual assault and endangerment of minors

David Olivo, 43, of Farmington’s Unionville neighborhood, sexually abused two victims on separate occasions in 2020 and 2021.

HARTFORD, Connecticut – A man from the Unionville neighborhood of Farmington was found guilty of multiple counts of sexual assault and endangerment of minors during a trial in Hartford Superior Court on Monday, according to a news release from the state’s Division of Criminal Justice.

David Olivo, 43, was found guilty of two counts of second-degree sexual assault, one count of fourth-degree sexual assault and two counts of endangering minors, prosecutors said.

Evidence at trial included the testimony of two minor victims who independently reported to Farmington police that they had been sexually abused by Olivo on separate occasions.

According to prosecutors, a victim reported that she was trying to return to her home during an overnight stay at Olivo’s house on July 1, 2020. Olivo offered to drive the victim home and sexually assaulted her during the drive, prosecutors said.

Testimony also revealed that on Feb. 6, 2021, Olivo picked up a group of minors and brought them to his home for a slumber party. Prosecutors said that in the early hours of the next day, a second victim woke up and went to the kitchen in search of a drink. Olivo was in the kitchen at the time and sexually assaulted the victim, prosecutors said.

Prosecutor Sharmese Walcott congratulated the young victims on their release.

“The courage and commitment of the young victims who stood firm while testifying before a jury comprised of people they have never met is remarkable,” Walcott said in the press release. “I thank the jury for their time and I thank these young witnesses for their example of strength and courage.”

According to prosecutors, Olivo will be sentenced on September 4 in Superior Court in Hartford.
