Woman recognizes brother as serial thief in Miami-Dade County

MIAMI – A woman told cops she wouldn’t be surprised if her troublemaking brother was the thief they were looking for in Miami-Dade County. Evidence later proved she was right, according to a police report.

Her brother, Daniel Huertas, was in the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center on Wednesday, facing nine charges in two pending cases – one of which involved domestic violence.

There was also an arrest warrant pending against 38-year-old Huertas for violating probation.

According to a police report, detectives found surveillance video showing Huertas at a Chevron gas station on May 22 with a stolen credit card and a stolen red Nissan Rogue SUV.

Investigators believe Huertas broke into a home and two cars to steal a wallet containing credit cards and a driver’s license. He also stole an electric bike nearby and kidnapped his sister and stole her car.

Huertas has been held at TGK without bail since May 23. Since then, the charges have been piling up.

In the domestic violence case, Huertas is charged with auto theft, robbery, kidnapping, assault on a person over 65 and assault.

In a second case, Huertas was charged with burglary of an unoccupied dwelling, two counts of burglary of an occupied structure and fraudulent use of a credit card.

Investigators asked anyone with information about this or other cases to call Miami-Dade County Crime Stoppers at 305-471-8477.
