Due to a water test, all beaches in Evanston were closed, Evanston police and fire officials announced on X (formerly Twitter) at around 4:15 p.m.

At around 3:15 p.m., fire and police responded to a 911 call reporting a missing swimmer at Greenwood Beach, according to the EPD. A person was swimming and did not resurface after going underwater, according to the X-post.

Both X-accounts stated that the missing swimmer was missing and that neither his identity nor a description was available.

EFD and EPD said there was a heavy police and fire presence at Lee Street Beach, Dempster Street Beach and Church Street Beach. EPD added that marine units, rescue divers and a Chicago Police Department helicopter were searching the water.
