Caroline Oltmanns writes:
It is with great sadness that we must say a final goodbye to Sean Ryan Baran, who tragically died yesterday in a pedestrian accident near his home.
Sean was one of my students and became a good friend by accident. Sean’s creative teaching style, his sensitivity to a student’s unique potential, his talent for selecting just the right repertoire and creating the perfect opportunities to perform it, made him, in my eyes, one of the best teachers I know and have had the pleasure of working with.
Many of our telephone conversations were about playing the piano and concerts. His contributions to the region and beyond as a pianist, organist and teacher were immeasurable.

From Sean’s resume:

Sean Baran is a pianist and organist from Youngstown, Ohio. He graduated summa cum laude from the Dana School of Music at Youngstown State University with bachelor’s and master’s degrees in music performance. In addition to serving as organist at Boardman United Methodist Church, Sean is a passionate piano educator. He is currently the resident artist at the Lincoln Park Performing Arts Center in Midland, PA, where he directs the piano program at the Lincoln Park Performing Arts Charter School. Sean currently serves as Secretary of the Youngstown Music Teachers’ Association, Vice President of Student Activities for the Ohio Music Teachers Association Middle East District, and Junior Counselor for District 1 of the Ohio Federation of Music Clubs. Sean is also a member of the American Guild of Organists and has served on the Executive Committee of the Youngstown Chapter.
