AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) – Heavy rain showers and thunderstorms are expected Sunday afternoon and evening, bringing some relief from the extreme heat. The next seven days will bring some relief from the drought across the CSRA.

A slight risk of flooding remains throughout the region on Sunday due to locally heavy rainfall. Winds will be from the southeast at 3 to 7 mph.

The same forecast applies to Monday with mostly cloudy skies, high humidity and a good chance of afternoon thunderstorms with localized heavy rain. Highs Monday will be around 90 degrees with winds from the southeast at 3 to 7 mph.

On Tuesday we expect a little more sunshine, although isolated showers and thunderstorms are likely in the afternoon and evening. Maximum temperatures will be around 35 degrees, typical for the season.

On Wednesday and Thursday the weather will be drier and hotter again, with only isolated to widely scattered thunderstorms in the afternoon. The maximum temperature on both days will be around 35 degrees, the perceived temperature will be between 38 and 40 degrees.

Rain chances may increase again by Friday, Saturday and Sunday as the remnants of Beryl move north, increasing humidity and hence the chance of rain in the afternoon.
