Biker crushed to death in road accident in Kochi

Kochi: A motorist was crushed to death when a private bus fell on him as the driver lost control and the vehicle overturned at a traffic signal near Panangad on Sunday.

According to police, 33-year-old Jijo Sebastian of Idukki was killed and 11 others were injured when the bus allegedly left the road and overturned.

The bus from Bengaluru went to Thiruvananthapuram.

“The incident occurred around 10:30 a.m. Apparently the bus driver lost control after braking and the vehicle fell on the biker who was waiting at the traffic lights,” police said.

Meanwhile, residents said the driver was trapped under the bus for about 25 minutes.

“He could only be rescued when a crane came and lifted the bus. He and the others were taken to a nearby hospital,” a local told the media.

However, Jijo could not be saved.

The accident caused a traffic jam on the national highway that lasted almost an hour. The fire brigade and police worked together to clear the roadblock and remove the vehicles involved.
