Trigger warning: The article contains references to rape and abuse.

Dream singer Melissa Schuman revealed she was forced to sing a duet with Nick Carter, who allegedly raped her. In the upcoming investigative documentary Fallen Idols: Nick and Aron Carter, the singer admits she was horrified to be in the same room with the Backstreet Boys member after the alleged incident.

Schuman describes the incident in 2003, when the singer was still part of the girl group Dream and received a text message from Carter. Melissa revealed that they were in Santa Monica at the time and the text message shocked her. However, the Made for Us singer denied Schuman’s allegations.

Allegations against Nick Carter by Melissa Schuman

Following the alleged incident, Schuman was asked to take legal action against the singer. However, the 39-year-old did not press charges because Carter was well connected at the time to turn the tables.

The Hollow actress explained the situation on the show, saying, “I confided in my manager that I was going to go to the police and report the crime.” She continued, “And he just said, ‘You know, (Carter) has the most powerful trial lawyer in the country. ‘We’re trying to make a name for ourselves right now, and this is going to destroy everything.’ Leaving that group without financial stability put me in such a vulnerable position that I thought, ‘Okay, this is not a viable option for me.'”

Schuman said after the incident calmed down, she avoided Nick Carter for the longest time until she moved to Kenneth Crear’s management company, where the song required a duet and had to sing alongside Carter.

The Silent Scream actress recalled: “And I signed with Kenneth Crear’s management company, only to find out later that Kenneth was like family to Nick. And so I remember Kenneth saying, ‘Nick recorded this song, it’s a duet, and you know, he and I discussed it and we both thought you should sing this duet with him.’ “

Crear understood that Schuman was on the fence about recording the song with Nick and offered the actress and singer a solution. Schuman said, “My first thought was, ‘Do I have to be alone with him?’ and Kenneth says, ‘Oh no, it’s already recorded.’ You just have to go in and do your part.'”

Melissa Schuman is forced to work with Nick Carter

While on air for the docu-series, the singer revealed that she was forced to work with Nick Carter again. Schuman said she signed the contract because she had to accept the offer, but when she saw Carter, she froze.

The actress from “Anna’s Dream” described the incident when she met the band’s singer again as follows: “I was scared and very cold to him.”

She added: “And we sang our duet. I don’t even think I looked at him. And at one point he said, ‘Well, obviously we don’t like each other.’ And those were the last words he ever said to me.”

Fallen Idol: Nick and Aaron Carter will premiere on Max on May 27th over two nights.
