Marlon Wayans details how “those Weinsteins” raped his legendary family through a bad “Scary Movie” deal to generate revenue

Comedian Marlon Wayans has finally weighed in on the discourse surrounding the upcoming reboot of “Scary Movie.” He claims that his family, a dynasty of comedians, has found a formula that can’t be repeated despite today’s climate, in which Hollywood isn’t as funny as it once was.

Although it may not be reproduced, the comic states that it can be exploited.

The “Wayans Brothers” star was interviewed by New York Times writer David Marchese for the newspaper’s podcast “The Interview.”

During the conversation, Wayans moved away from the topic of grief and the loss of his parents and talked about working with Harvey Weinstein, a producer on his hit comedy series “Scary Movie.”

The youngest Wayans brother wrote and created the franchise and had it financed in 2000 by Miramax, a company co-founded by Weinstein and his brother Bob Weinstein in 1979.

“Scary Movie” had five installs before it was rebooted again. Only the first two films were connected to the Wayans family.

After Marlon talked about how cheaply his films were made and how little interest audiences had in the films after he and his brothers Shawn and Keenen were involved, he made a joke and compared the contractual exploitation they faced, with the allegations of sexual assault against Weinstein by several women.

“You know those Weinsteins,” he said, stuttering, “they raped everyone.”

Marchese quickly chimed in: “Not the same.”

“Business,” Marlon added, “literally and business-wise. We all got a little… a little taste… They were terrible, terrible people.”

Marchese used the statement to provide a “good example of an offensive joke.”

After ten minutes, Marchese returned to the joke about the Weinstein brothers and asked about Marlon’s fear of going all in.

“You had this pause where I think you were thinking about whether you should say the joke,” the host said, before asking, “I want to know if you can tell me like in your head, in the moment you have the joke.” Possibly offensive joke, what is actually going through your mind during this pause?

“Who is my audience?” Marlon explained, adding that he heard the presenter “twitch” at the beginning and wondered if it would elicit the same reaction.

Feeling more comfortable with the host, he said, “I wanted to say, ‘You know, not only did he (rape) women, he raped N-Gas, believe me, we did business with him.'”

The host seemed to flinch again.

Marlon explained that when he and his brothers were in the writer’s room, such a reaction would be called “getting on the white bike.” In his opinion, this would have been a joke that black people would have liked, even if white people would have been offended.

“Brothers would get upset about it, but white people start backpedaling,” he said.

The podcaster wasn’t the only one offended by the joke.

This isn’t the first time the TV star has used rape as a punchline to his jokes. In 2022, Marlon claimed he used the word when he first met his “white Irish cousin”, a radio presenter named Sean Valentine, on the show Big Boy.

The New York native said he took his DNA test on 23 and Me and discovered he was 27 percent Irish. Valentine is 100 percent Irish. The test shows that they are distantly related.

“I’m Irish, I’m 27 percent Irish. I didn’t know that. I made fun of white people. “I feel bad because now I realize I made fun of us,” Marlon said.

“So your great-grandfather raped my great-grandmother,” he reasoned.

Then he continued jokingly, “How do you feel about that? How do you feel about that, cousin? Cousin on the rape side.”

“I just wanted to say hello,” Valentine said.

“That’s what your great-great-grandfather said ‘hello’ to my great-great-grandmother before he raped her,” Marlon said.

Marlon is known for his crass and crude style of comedy and has stated that he has no intention of stopping just because it makes people uncomfortable. However, he added that he makes the effort to read the room to make sure his jokes land, even if they border on offensive.
