Allentown man arrested after domestic disturbance and shooting


Allentown, PA — At 8:47 a.m. on Friday, July 26, Allentown Police officers responded to a home in the 500 block of North 13th Street on a report of a domestic dispute. When officers arrived, they heard gunshots coming from inside the home.

Officers entered the home and found evidence of recent gunfire. It was quickly determined that the shooter had fled through the back of the home. The suspect was found a short time later in the basement of a neighboring home. The suspect was arrested without further incident and found in possession of a 9mm handgun.

The suspect was identified as Joel Reyes, 30, of Allentown. Reyes is charged with discharging a firearm into an occupied structure, recklessly endangering another person, possession of a firearm without a permit and trespassing.

  • The Monmouth County Fair returns to Freehold

    FREEHOLD, NJ — The Monmouth County Fair will be held July 24-28 at the East Freehold Fairgrounds, 1500 Kozloski Road. The event promises a variety of shows and exhibits, including 4-H showcases and thrill rides from Campy’s Blue Star Amusements.

    Visitors can enjoy live music on the main stage and special attractions such as Robinson’s Racing Pigs, the Bwana Jim Wildlife Show and the Raptor Project. Performances by Hilby the skinny German juggling boy and Aaron Bonk’s fire, whip and danger tricks will entertain the audience with humor and skill. The Flying Fools High Diving Show and Goodwin’s Good Time Photo Booth will add to the fun and unforgettable experiences. On Thursday and Friday, visitors will have the opportunity to meet Crunchy the T-Rex.

    The fair also features living history exhibits, home and garden demonstrations, and interactive exhibits from the Monmouth County Park System. Visitors can explore commercial vendors and enjoy a variety of food from various vendors.

    Admission is $10, children under 12 are free.

  • Warren County Farmers’ Fair and Balloon Festival opens July 27

    HARMONY TOWNSHIP, NJ — The Warren County Farmers’ Fair and Hot Air Balloon Festival runs July 27 through August 3. The event is located at 1350 Strykers Road and features a mix of agricultural exhibits and modern entertainment.

    Highlights include demolition derbies, hay bale rolling at the Agricultural Olympics and mass hot air balloon releases each evening. Visitors can enjoy tethered balloon rides, carnival rides and children’s activities at the Kids Corral. The fair also features competitions such as the Belvidere FFA Alumni & Supporters Car, Truck & Tractor Show and various home and garden competitions.

    There will be live entertainment from local bands, a beer garden and special events such as the Black Cat Hell Riders Stunt Car Show. The fair honors veterans and seniors with special entry days and activities. Traditional horse shows, 4-H and FFA exhibits, a bustling marketplace and classic fair food will be part of the experience.

    Admission is $10 for adults, $5 for children ages 6-12, and free for children under 5. The ticket price includes access to the Farmers Market and Balloon Festival.

  • Jersey City hosts a beer, wine and spirits festival this summer

    JERSEY CITY, NJ — On July 27, Liberty State Park will host the Summer Beer, Wine, and Spirits Fest from 1:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Visitors will have the opportunity to sample a variety of beers, wines, and spirits while enjoying live entertainment and interactive games. The event will be held at 1 Audrey Zapp Drive and will offer scenic views of the Manhattan skyline. Food will also be available to complement the beverage selection.
