Malik Demond Washington, 25, was arrested and charged with aggravated assault and possession of a weapon during a violent crime, police spokesman Harve Jacobs said.

The shooting occurred at around 4:45 p.m. on June 25 at the Greentree North Apartments on Otranto Road. Police were told two men began shooting after a verbal argument.

Details about the victim were not released due to her age. Police do not believe she was connected to either shooter.

Washington was previously arrested and charged with two counts of attempted murder in connection with a shooting in West Ashley in 2017, but the charges were dropped due to lack of evidence, court records show.

Washington is being held at the Al Cannon Detention Center.
