Jennings police stop two cars stolen from Houston; officials warn against VIN swapping

JENNINGS, Louisiana (KPLC) – Jennings Police are warning the public about car scams after two stolen cars were stopped within 24 hours.

According to JPD, officers stopped a Dodge Charger SRT 392 and a Dodge Charger Hellcat on the highway on June 29 and 30. Officers noticed signs of a VIN swap on both cars and confirmed that they had been reported stolen in Harris County, Texas.

The officers seized both stolen cars.

JPD is warning used car buyers about VIN swapping, where criminals hide or replace a car’s vehicle identification number. Over the past two years, officers have recovered over $1.3 million worth of stolen cars, and many of those cases involved VIN swapping.
