Eight people, including four children, injured after fire incident near Montreal

MONTREAL – Eight people, including four children, were hospitalized with second- and third-degree burns following a fire and possible explosion in a home south of Montreal.

The regional fire chief said an emergency call came in about a building fire in St-Constant on Montreal’s south shore around 10:15 p.m. on Saturday.

According to Luc Lapointe, rescue workers found several seriously injured people on the ground and a garage damaged by fire.

He says people appeared to have gathered around a campfire and neighbors reported hearing an explosion.

Lapointe says experts are investigating the cause of the fire, but points out that there was a propane-powered vehicle in the garage.

The regional emergency services said that the injured were seriously injured but all were expected to survive.
