DOUG INGLE of IRON BUTTERFLY dies at the age of 78

IRON BUTTERFLY Founding member, organist, main composer and lead singer Doug Ingle died at the age of 78.

The news of his death was delivered by his son, Doug Ingle Jr., who wrote on social media: “It is with a heavy heart and great sadness that I announce the passing of my father. Doug Ingle. Dad passed away peacefully on Friday evening (May 24th) in the presence of his family.

“Thank you, Dad, for being a father, a teacher, and a friend. I will carry these loving memories with me for the rest of my life as I continue this journey through life. I love you, Dad.”

English was the last surviving founding member of IRON BUTTERFLYthe American psychedelic rock band, best known for their 1968 hit “In a life like a dream”.

In July 1968 IRON BUTTERFLY released his debut LP, “Difficult”and went on tour with people like THE DOORS, CREAM And WHOwhile the album on the Billboard Chart for almost a year. Their second release in July 1968 was the monumental “In a life like a dream”The 17-minute title track helped the album sell over 30 million copies, and a three-minute version of the song became a Top 40 hit.

“In a life like a dream” was famously covered by HUNTRESS on the “Less than zero” Soundtrack.

In 2012, guitarist Larry “Rhino” Reinhardtthe in IRON BUTTERFLY in the 1970s and 1980s, died. Later that year Lee Dormanwho played bass on their groundbreaking records, has also passed away.

Long time IRON BUTTERFLY drummer Ron Bushy died in August 2021 at the age of 79. The only member of IRON BUTTERFLY He appeared on all six of the band’s albums, but died after a battle with esophageal cancer.
