Naugatuck man charged after stabbing incident at park

Kyle O’Creene was charged after he approached the officer with a knife in his hand on April 25.

NAUGATUCK, Conn. (WTNH) — Police on Tuesday arrested and charged a man who was driving erratically with a knife at Baummer’s Pond Park on April 25.

Kyle O’Creene, 24, was charged with attempted assault on a police officer, carrying a dangerous weapon, obstructing a police officer and first-degree reckless endangerment. He was arraigned in Waterbury Superior Court.

Naugatuck officers responded to the park on Mill Street. When they arrived at the scene, O’Creene was near a picnic table and was holding a knife.

O’Creene stood up and walked toward the officers with the knife, ignoring multiple commands to drop the knife. The officers initially attempted to subdue O’Creene with a Taser, but the use of the Taser was unsuccessful.

As O’Creene continued to advance toward the Naugatuck officers, who were still holding the knife, Officer Crystal Hudson and Officer Joseph Palhete fired their handguns, wounding O’Creene.

O’Creene received immediate medical attention at the scene and was later transported to Waterbury Hospital for treatment. After being released from the hospital, O’Creene was taken into custody by officers.

The investigation into the incident is ongoing under the direction of the Inspector General.
