First Alert Warning: Northern Lights are possible Friday night, followed by a few showers over the weekend

Friday’s clouds will attempt to clear a bit overnight, making it the perfect time for a chance to see the Northern Lights.

There is a possibility that the aurora could be visible tonight due to a relatively rare recent solar event. Of course, we need to see the sky to see the aurora, and we think we should see at least some clearing from west to east this evening. So when you see the stars in the sky after sunset, look north and move away from any light source. You may not be able to see it with the naked eye, but if you have a phone or camera with a long exposure, you can capture the colors dancing across the sky.

The weekend will start with some sunshine, but clouds will fill in again and we will see a few scattered showers in the afternoon. These tend to dissipate at sunset, causing cloud formation overnight and starting Mother’s Day on Sunday.

We should see some clearing again later Sunday, meaning some afternoon sun returns. We have a chance of seeing a few scattered showers on Sunday, but much of the day should remain dry. Temperatures will start in the upper 40s this weekend and end in the low 60s in the afternoon.
