An off-duty NYPD police officer was killed in a car crash in the north of the state on Friday evening, officials said.

Two-year police officer Juliana Torsiello was driving her 2008 BMW 328i east on County Road 51 between Blough Lane and Ridge Road in Orange County around 6 p.m. when she “failed to negotiate a right turn on a downhill road,” according to a New York State patrol trooper.

The officer’s car crossed into oncoming traffic and collided with an embankment, where it was thrown through the air and struck a tree, the officer said. The vehicle then rolled over and landed on its roof.

Torsiello, 25, suffered blunt force trauma to the head. Her body was taken to the Orange County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Investigators believe the officer’s speed was a possible factor in the crash, the officer said. He said an autopsy will show whether alcohol was present in the officer’s blood.

The officer worked at the 30th Precinct in West Harlem and joined the NYPD in December 2021.
