Person accused of crashing into occupied police car in West Haven in ‘premeditated attack’ – NBC Connecticut

One person was arrested after colliding with an occupied police vehicle in West Haven on Saturday. The incident is being investigated as an intentional attack on police officers, according to police.

Shortly before 2 p.m., an officer was driving his marked patrol car near Meloy Road and Route 1 when, according to investigators, a vehicle pulled up next to him and attempted to run him off the road.

The officer notified dispatch of the encounter and reported that the individual attempted to hit his police vehicle. The officer continued driving down Meloy Road and then down Saw Mill Road back to police headquarters, providing additional information along the way.

As more officers arrived to assist, a marked police car was reportedly stopped at the red light on Greta Street at Saw Mill Road. Authorities said the driver of the suspect vehicle made a sharp left turn and intentionally drove into the occupied police car while it was stopped.

Additional officers arrived at the scene and the driver of the suspect vehicle was arrested. The person’s identity has not been released. It is unclear what charges he or she may face.

“Our Criminal Investigation Division has taken over the investigation as this is considered a deliberate attack on our police officers,” said Sergeant Patrick Buturla, West Haven Police spokesman.

The incident remains under investigation.
