‘We had a false start’: Noah Lyles talks about dealing with the sudden incident at the 2024 US Olympic track and field qualifiers

A fumble early in an Olympic career is not something any athlete wants. And yet that’s exactly what happened to Oregonian Cravon Gillespie at the U.S. Olympic track and field trials. Gillespie was disqualified from the men’s 100-meter race due to a false start, but Noah Lyles seemed to have covered such scenarios in advance.

The USATF official website has released the final standings of the men who qualified for tomorrow’s 100m semifinals, with Cravon at the bottom of the standings in Heat 1. Following his win in the same race, Noah spoke about how he prepared in advance to avoid making the same mistake as his colleague.

We had a false start there, that’s funny,“Noah giggled in a post-race interview when he mentioned that his coaches had advised him to stay calm before the race in case he made a mistake.”Reset, go slow, don’t worry about anything (Noah was told)and that is what I did”, Noah was heard saying.
