State police pursue suspects in Jay case | News

JAY – State Police are advising residents of the Ausable Acres neighborhood to remain in their homes while pursuing suspects in an alleged shooting incident on Sawmill Road.

A warning was posted on the city of Jay’s official Facebook page Monday evening, urging residents to “stay in their homes at this time.”

According to a press release from New York State Troop B, officers were contacted around 5:23 p.m. Monday evening “regarding two suspicious males walking on the street with long guns.”

At around 6:29 p.m., police responded to Sawmill Road in the town of Jay for a report of a vehicle being shot at.

The suspects fled into a nearby forest. The state police have set up a no-go zone around the surrounding area, the press release said.

State police drone pilots, police dogs, SORT and Tri-County SRT were actively searching the area.

“These suspects may be in possession of weapons. Do not approach them,” state police warned in the press release.
