Oxford, MS man arrested and charged with rape

MEMPHIS, Tennessee – A man was arrested and charged with rape following an incident in Oxford, Mississippi, last week, according to the Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office.

On May 29, the Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division was notified of a reported sexual assault at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Oxford.


The sheriff’s office said an investigation has been launched into the alleged attack.

Following the completion of the investigation, an arrest warrant was issued for 47-year-old Cory Lemond Smith of Oxford, Mississippi, on charges of rape and assault.

Smith reportedly turned himself in to the Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office on May 31.

He is being held at the Lafayette County Detention Center, where his bail has been set at $100,000.
