Minister refuses to back down from suspension of straw chopping despite widespread backlash

Agriculture Minister Charlie McConalogue (PA)

Agriculture Minister Charlie McConalogue has confirmed he has no intention of backtracking on his decision to suspend the Straw Incorporation Scheme, despite widespread backlash, including criticism from his coalition colleague and Minister of State Martin Heydon.

Speaking to the Farming Independent on Thursday, Minister McConalogue said he intended to consult with stakeholders but was determined that farmers would replenish their straw stocks.
