Clinton man struck and killed by car in Montgomery County

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Md. (DC News now) – Detectives with the Montgomery County Department of Police (MCPD) are investigating after a pedestrian was killed in a collision early Wednesday morning.

MCPD said 43-year-old Earl William Smith of Clinton, Maryland, was driving a Ford van when he struck a sign, causing his van to stall in the median. For reasons unknown to investigators, Smith got out of his car and was struck in the roadway by the driver of a BMW.

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue crews arrived at the intersection of Muncaster Mill Road and Norbck Road shortly before 5:40 a.m

Smith was pronounced dead there.

The driver of the BMW remained at the scene of the accident.
