According to the CPSC, two people died in nursing homes – one in 2019 and one in 2023.

The Bed Assist Bar portable bed rails for adults are manufactured by Medline Industries LP.

They have either the model number MDS6800BA or MDS6800BAH. Model MDS6800BA was sold individually while MDS6800BAH was sold in packs of three. There are no other differences between the model numbers as both are made from black metal tubing and have a rounded black foam rubber handle and a fabric bag. “Medline” and the model number are located on a label on the bed rail.

The splints were sold for $32 to $64 from July 2009 to March 2024. They were sold online by Medline and other retailers such as Amazon, Walmart, CVS and Walgreens.

Owners of the bed rails are asked to stop using them immediately and contact Medline for a refund.
