Two injured in early morning accident on US-1 in Cary, police said

CARY, NC (WNCN) — According to Cary police, police are investigating an accident early Saturday morning that closed a highway in both directions.

Shortly after 5 a.m., officers said they were called to westbound US-1 between Cary Parkway and Walnut Street.

When officers arrived, they said a Mercedes and a Toyota Corolla had been involved in an accident.

The driver of the Mercedes was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries, police said.

The driver of the Toyota Corolla was also taken to hospital, but with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

They said the drivers were the only people in both vehicles at the time of the crash. The drivers have not been identified.

As of 6:45 a.m., US-1 between Cary Parkway and Walnut St. remains closed in both directions, according to Cary police.

They expect it to remain closed for the next two hours.

Police said the accident was still under investigation.
