Kamareddy DMHO suspended over sexual harassment allegations

The Telangana Health Department has suspended N. Laxman Singh, District Medical Officer and Health Officer (DMHO) of Kamareddy district, on charges of sexual harassment. Health Minister Christina Z. Chongthu issued the suspension order on Thursday.

According to a report by the District Collector, seven criminal cases were filed against Dr Laxman for sexual harassment of women doctors. He was arrested on May 15 and produced before the Judicial Magistrate First Class (JFCM) on May 16, where he was released on bail pending chargesheet and trial. An inquiry was then conducted under the leadership of Amar Singh Naik, Deputy Director (Malaria). Dr Amar’s preliminary report pointed out that Dr Laxman had failed to follow administrative rules and recommended further disciplinary action by the Director of Health and Family Welfare.
