Former MDOC official sentenced to 16 years in prison for sexual exploitation of children

JACKSON, MI – A Jackson County man who formerly worked as a Michigan Department of Corrections officer has been sentenced to 16 years in prison for sexual exploitation of children and distribution of child pornography, U.S. Attorney Dawn Ison announced.

Aaron Ray Fetters, 29, was sentenced Thursday, May 9, by U.S. District Court Judge Terrence Berg.

Fetters was convicted of years of sexual exploitation of a teenage girl. He recorded videos in which he repeatedly sexually abused the girl.

Homeland Security Investigations and Michigan State Police received a tip in 2022 that Fetters had been distributing child pornography on social media. According to a news release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office in the Eastern District of Michigan, the investigation led to the recovery of his electronic devices, which led to the discovery of sexual abuse.

“Thanks to the tireless efforts of our law enforcement partners, including the MSP and HSI agents working on this case, a prolific sex offender was exposed, his abuse was stopped, and he was punished for his heinous actions,” Ison said in a statement.

Investigators found hundreds of images of child pornography on Fetters’ devices, including images of infants.

“HSI is committed to protecting our most vulnerable population from sexual predators who seek to exploit their innocence, particularly those in positions of public trust,” said Shawn Gibson, Acting Special Agent in Charge of HSI Detroit.
