Florence man dies in kayaking accident in North Carolina

BUXTON, NC – A 72-year-old Florence man died Saturday while kayaking near Cape Point Campground in Buxton, NC

According to WNCT-TV, the man launched his kayak from the beach at Cape Hatteras National Seashore, and passersby reported to authorities that they saw the kayak capsize as he tried to pull away.

The television station reported that rescuers swam out, pulled the man to shore and performed CPR, but were unable to revive him.

The North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission is investigating the incident.
