Woman arrested by task force after threatening Dunkin’ employees with a gun

Rumford police say a woman is in jail for allegedly walking up to a Dunkin’ drive-thru window and pulling out a gun when employees wouldn’t let her in. Officers were called to Dunkin’ at 158 Congress Street in Rumford just after 8 p.m. Wednesday. Employees at the store described a woman who reportedly approached the drive-thru window after closing time and demanded to be let in to make a phone call. When employees refused, the woman pulled out a semi-automatic pistol and ran away. Investigators and officers from multiple agencies searched the area, but the use of a sniffer dog revealed that she eventually drove away in a vehicle. An off-duty Mexican police lieutenant examined photos taken by employees at the store and surveillance footage from the area and recognized the woman as Rebecca Sims, 33, of Mexico. “Although the employees were traumatized by the incident, their quick actions likely prevented anyone from being injured or killed,” Rumford Police Chief Tony Milligan wrote in a statement. “The cooperation of the provider of security video footage taken at a nearby establishment allowed the suspect to be quickly identified.” Officers monitored her Granite Street home overnight while Rumford police obtained search and arrest warrants, authorities said. Because Sims likely still had the gun she allegedly pointed at the Dunkin’ employees, Rumford police called a state police strike team to arrest Sims. Just before noon Thursday, the strike team surrounded the home and ordered her out at gunpoint. Sims was reportedly arrested without incident, and officers from Rumford and Mexico searched the home. Several weapons were seized, according to Rumford officials. Police found three pistols – including the one suspected in the original incident at Dunkin’ – a shotgun, a machete, a hatchet, a Bowie knife and several loaded magazines. Sims is now facing charges of felon making threats with a dangerous weapon and another of threatening display of a weapon. Sims’ bail was set at $1,000 cash and was eventually transported to the York County Jail.
