Sheriff’s office investigates possible shooting with one injured person

The Jasper County Sheriff’s Office said Saturday that a possible shooting incident on July 5 that left one person injured is currently under investigation.

Officers with the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a shooting with injuries on Sunset Avenue, the sheriff’s office said in a news release. The exact time of the incident was not known at the time the news release was issued.

“Dispatch informed responding officers that the victim was transported by a third party to the Ridgeland Fire Station on Railroad Avenue,” the release said. “Some officers went to the scene on Sunset Avenue while others went to the fire department. The fire department then transported the victim to Memorial Health University Medical Center in Savannah.”

The sheriff’s office said detectives were called to Memorial Health University Medical Center to speak with the victim. There, medical personnel reported that the victim suffered a laceration to his forehead that only required a few stitches.

The sheriff’s office said it was still unclear whether the cut was caused by a bullet.
