Alison Lee explains Nelly Korda's dog bite incident

Alison Lee has revealed that Nelly Korda was bitten by “a dog she didn’t recognize” outside “a random cafe” in Seattle following the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship last month.

The injury forced Korda to withdraw from the Aramco Team Series in London this week while she undergoes treatment and makes a full recovery. Her goal is to return to the court “soon.”

In a statement posted on Instagram, Korda said: “I regret to announce that I have to withdraw from next week’s Ladies European Tour tournament in London. I was bitten by a dog in Seattle on Saturday and need time to receive treatment and fully recover.

“I apologize to the LET, the sponsors and my fans for my absence. Thank you for your understanding and I look forward to being back on the court soon.”

Lee, who is taking part in a tournament with 36 teams and 108 individuals at the Centurion Club, has already experienced a very similar situation when she was bitten by “Bear,” her boyfriend’s rescue dog, in January.

The incident left her with several open wounds on her left hand and 29-year-old Lee ended up having to spend two nights in hospital because her entire arm turned red and she was diagnosed with lymphangitis.

Lee spoke about her experience and gave some more information about Korda’s plight: “She asked me a lot of questions about the symptoms I had when I was bitten by my dog.

“The dog bite became very infected, so I was actually in the hospital for three days. But yes, it’s an unfortunate circumstance and definitely scary. She was bitten by a dog she didn’t know, it was just in a random cafe. I hope for a speedy recovery for her.”

Now fully recovered and having earned over $325,000 this season, Lee is hoping to secure a decent chunk of the $1 million total prize pool with her first win of the season this week.

Lee won the individual trophy at the Aramco Team Series in Riyadh last October – achieved with the lowest 36-hole score since the inception of the PIF-supported series.

But to repeat her success in the third round of this year’s ATS, Lee will have to master the notoriously changeable British weather, which is forecast to bring showers as well as sunshine and a stiff breeze.

Lee knows she’ll have to adapt quickly to have a chance of winning. She said: “The weather has been really nice so far, I think that helps. The fairways seem pretty firm, so that gets you far.”

“I played the first nine holes when it wasn’t too windy, but I’m sure it could get pretty windy here as the week goes on, so I have a feeling it’s going to play quite differently.

“When the tournament starts tomorrow and probably later in the week, they say there might be a bit of rain. I’ll just try to do my best to adapt to what Britain offers golf.”
