Gunman hijacks bus in Atlanta, one dead, police say

One person is dead after a gunman hijacked a bus in Atlanta on Tuesday and led police on a chase through several counties in Georgia, police said.

Joseph Grier, 39, was arrested, Atlanta police said in a statement. One person on the bus was found with a gunshot wound and died after being taken to a hospital, police said.

Atlanta Police Chief Darin Schierbaum said at a press conference on Tuesday that 17 people, including the driver, were on board the bus.

Police said they responded to a report of shots fired around 4:35 p.m. Tuesday. When officers arrived at the scene, the bus, which video footage showed was from Gwinnett County Transit, sped away, police said. It eventually stopped in Stone Mountain, Georgia, where police arrested Grier.
