Police vehicle: Police officer suspended after police vehicle hits woman | Pune News

Pune: Pimpri Chinchwad police on Wednesday suspended a constable of Hinjewadi police after he accidentally hit a woman pedestrian with a police van on Tuesday and later collided with a parked two-wheeler near Shri Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex in Balewadi when votes for Maval Lok Sabha constituency were being counted at the stadium. When senior officers reached the scene, they found that the constable was under the influence of alcohol. “We have registered a case against him and suspended him. His medical examination report is awaited. We will decide on further action against him after receiving the report,” deputy superintendent of police Bapu Bangar told TOI. The victim, Shankuntala Shelke of Mhalunge, was injured in the accident. She is undergoing treatment at a nearby hospital. Pimpri Chinchwad police had deployed security personnel near the sports complex on the day of vote counting (Tuesday). The policeman was sitting in the police vehicle near the police chowky near Balewadi. “The engine of the police vehicle was on. The policeman accidentally pressed the accelerator and the police vehicle hit the passing Shelke. The police vehicle stopped after hitting a parked two-wheeler,” said an official of Hinjewadi police. “A case has been registered against him and a departmental inquiry has been initiated,” he said.
