Santa Maria police arrest two people at checkpoint for drunk driving

SANTA MARIA, Calif. – Santa Maria police arrested two drivers on suspicion of drunken driving during a recent stop.

The stop took place from 6:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m. in the 900 block of South Broadway and, according to SMPD, a total of 18 drivers were cited for driving without a license.

Drivers charged with DUI for the first time face an average fine of $13,500 and a license suspension, the SMPD said.

The SMPD plans to add additional checkpoints in the coming months.
