A portion of I-26 East will be closed overnight this week

ASHEVILLE, NC (FOX Carolina) – The North Carolina Department of Transportation has announced that a four-mile stretch of Interstate 26 East will be closed for four nights this week.

From Monday through Thursday, I-26 East is closed from exit 33 (Brevard Road) to exit 37 (Long Shoals Road). On Wednesday evening, the closure extends to exit 44 (US 25).

The primary detour will be via Brevard Road, with longer green lights along the route, NCDOT said.

Closures begin after 7pm and the road reopens before 6am each morning.

As part of the I-26 widening project, construction crews will install permanent signs and remove concrete from the new bridge.
