Man killed in Portsmouth shooting: police

PORTSMOUTH, Virginia – A man died from a gunshot wound in Portsmouth Thursday afternoon, police said.

Officers responded to a call reporting a shooting in the 2400 block of High Street around 2:25 p.m.

According to Portsmouth police, store employees said the shooting occurred after an altercation with a man who attempted to steal merchandise from the store.

Police identified the victim as Rahsaan Nixon, 27, who left the building after the shooting. He died at the hospital and his next of kin have been notified.

No suspects have been named, but Portsmouth police said the shooting is under investigation.
