Four more boys arrested in rape investigation

Four other boys were arrested on suspicion of rape.

Police received reports of a serious sexual assault at the Yorke Drive sports fields in Newark between 5:30pm and 7pm (CEST) on Saturday 25 May.

A 12-year-old boy, a 13-year-old boy and two 14-year-old boys were arrested and all released on bail under strict conditions, officials said.

Four other teenagers were arrested earlier this week on suspicion of rape; all remain free on bail.

Detective Insp Amy Revill, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “We continue to support the girl and her family with specially trained officers and are doing everything we can to find out exactly what happened.”

“I would like to again urge local people and anyone with information to please contact us.”

Insp. Charlotte Ellam, District Manager for Newark, added: “I understand the concerns this incident has caused in our community in Newark.

“We have been carrying out additional patrols in this area and will continue to do so, so if you have any concerns please speak to one of my officers.”

“We would also like to ask you to avoid speculation.”
