Assistant doctors at ABUTH suspend warning strike

The junior doctors of the Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital, ABUTH, Zaria have suspended their five-day warning strike which began on Monday.

DAILY POST had reported that the National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) of the Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital (ABUTH) had embarked on a five-day warning strike over outstanding payment to some members.

Vice President of the Nigeria Association of Resident Doctors (NARD), Ashiru Mikail, told journalists in Zaria on Tuesday that the strike had been suspended following a solution with the hospital management.

He further explained that the junior doctors resumed their work at 8 a.m. on Tuesday.

According to him, the strike was suspended after a marathon meeting between the association and the management of ABUTH.

“There was a serious commitment from management to respond to the association’s demands.

“The management had promised to stop paying percentage salaries to our members, which is one of the association’s complaints,” he noted.

Mikail said measures were also taken at the meeting to curb further disagreements between the association and ABUTH management.
