Man arrested after threatening his parents with a gun and standoff with SWAT in southwest Houston

A man was arrested after an hours-long standoff with the SWAT team for allegedly threatening his parents with a gun in their southwest Houston townhouse.

Officers arrived at the scene in the 12400 block of Brookglade Circle around 3:30 p.m. after a male suspect allegedly pulled out a handgun and threatened his father. Upon arrival, officers were able to safely evacuate the suspect’s mother and father from the residence.

The suspect, who had been living in the garage of the townhouse, refused to leave the house when officers attempted to contact him. Officers then obtained a search and arrest warrant because they suspected he was armed.

The SWAT team was called to the scene and made multiple attempts to get the suspect to surrender, but he continued to refuse. After multiple attempts, the SWAT team forced entry into the garage and deployed tear gas. The suspect then jumped out from under the garage door and onto the roof of the garages, running back and forth with a gun in his hand.

At one point, he climbed onto the roof of the two-story townhouses. Officers used a taser, a 40mm round and flash grenades and eventually managed to herd the suspect into a garage and arrest him. A handgun was later found in another garage.

The standoff ended around midnight and the suspect faces charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
