Del Denby Tavern must cease operations after shooting

The city of Buffalo forced Del Denby Tavern to cease all operations immediately after a fatal shooting on its front patio early Tuesday morning.

Buffalo police said a 46-year-old man was shot outside the popular North Buffalo establishment on Hertel Avenue near Parkside Avenue. He was rushed to ECMC, where he later died.

Police say the shooting resulted from a fight between two people that started inside the bar and that the victim and the suspected shooter knew each other.

This isn’t the first shooting to break out after some sort of altercation at the Del Denby Tavern. There was one in June 2021 which left one person injured after a large fight spread into Avenue Hertel, right in front of the bar.

Del Denby Tavern owner John Daly tells Spectrum News 1 he was concerned about the impact the incident might have on his business and called the shooting “senseless.”

Buffalo police are asking anyone who may have information that could lead to an arrest to call their confidential tip line at 716-847-2255.
