Man arrested after argument leads to shooting at a market in Nashville, Tennessee

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) – A man is jailed on felony charges after police said he fired a gun following an argument at a Nashville market.

According to court documents, the incident occurred on Monday, May 6, at Rains Market & Eatery in the 100 block of Rains Avenue.

Officials said they were dispatched to the market after receiving a call about a person shot.

The Metro Nashville Police Department (MNPD) reported that the victim had already left the scene when officers arrived, but later returned to speak with them.

He allegedly told officers he wanted to press charges against 25-year-old Bishoy Mekhail after he suffered a graze wound to his leg.

During the course of the investigation, officers determined that Mekhail fired a single shot inside the store after he was involved in a verbal altercation with the victim.

The bullet apparently hit the ground, ricocheted and hit the victim, officials said.

An arrest report states, “There were other individuals at the location at the time of the shooting who were in danger as a result of the suspect’s actions.”

At the scene, officers said they found a 9mm shell casing and the loaded firearm used in the incident at the market.

Mekail was taken into custody and charged with reckless endangerment with a deadly weapon and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

He remains in jail on a $60,000 bond.
