Bomb threat in Fredonia is being investigated by police

Due to reports of a bomb threat, portions of East Main Street in the village of Fredonia were closed Thursday morning.

FREDONIA, NY — Multiple agencies responded to a report of a bomb threat in the Village of Fredonia Thursday morning.

Fredonia police received a call around 8 a.m. Thursday that a person was sitting in the back seat of a vehicle parked at Crosby’s on East Main Street and blaring the car’s horn with a passenger-side pistol.

When officers arrived, they found a red SUV in the parking lot with its horn honking.

As police approached the vehicle, they saw towels and blankets hanging out the windows, blocking officers’ view.

Both an adult male and an adult female were asked to get out of the car. Once out of the car, both occupants claimed there was a bomb in the SUV.

Bomb technicians from the Chautauqua and Cattaraugus County Sheriff’s Departments’ Hazardous Devices Unit subsequently used robots to search the vehicle.

Additionally, a canine unit from the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office was deployed to continue the search.

After initial investigations, the crime scene was declared safe and it was determined that an air rifle was used to honk the car’s horn. A shotgun was not found.

Police did not confirm whether a bomb was found at the scene.

According to Fredonia police, charges will be filed following further investigation.
