Grand Forks deputy arrested for drunk driving

GRAND FORKS, N.D. (North Dakota Monitor) – A Grand Forks deputy was arrested for driving under the influence early Tuesday morning.

Around 1 a.m., Rep. Claire Cory, R-Grand Forks, was driving near the intersection of Gateway Drive and Columbia Road in Grand Forks when a local police officer pulled her over, according to the arrest memo.

A breath test showed Cory’s blood alcohol content was 0.168%, twice the legal limit for driving.

Her arraignment is scheduled for May 21 in Grand Forks Municipal Court.

If convicted, Cory faces up to 30 days in jail and/or a fine of up to $1,500 under North Dakota law.

Cory declined to comment Wednesday. No attorney is listed for her in court records.

Since 2019, she has represented District 42 in the North Dakota House of Representatives. Cory is running for the district’s Senate seat and will face Republican Party-endorsed candidate Dustin McNally, a faculty member at the University of North Dakota, in the June 11 primary.

Senator Curt Kreun, R-Grand Forks, has held the district’s Senate seat since 2017. Kreun decided not to seek re-election.
