Potential Trump VPs rally behind him for Atlanta debate

Donalds teased fellow Republican Congressman Wesley Hunt of Texas about not needing a hairdresser and teased another panelist for his long-winded answers. About halfway through the hourlong discussion, Donalds pulled out his phone and held it up to a microphone.

“All right, everyone, you’re with the president,” Donalds said.

Trump took questions from panelists and local black business owners and community leaders for about 10 minutes.

“I hope I’m well represented, I feel like I am,” the former president said. “Wesley, by the way, you did a good job on TV this morning. »

Nearly all serious contenders for Trump’s running mate are expected to visit the “spin room,” a space near the debate hall where media outlets will conduct live interviews with representatives from both campaigns.

And then they’re expected to make the rounds at a watch party hosted by former U.S. Sen. Kelly Loeffler, at which Trump is expected to make post-debate remarks.

It’s all part of a protracted hearing that Trump has forced his potential running mates to endure. He doesn’t have to formally announce who will join him on the ticket until after the Republican National Convention, which begins July 15. But he could do so at any time before then.

Ben Carson, who served as housing secretary under Trump, said the future of democracy rests on this election.

“We will not be able to keep our country if we continue on this path,” he told the small crowd of Trump supporters who attended the opening of a campaign office in an office park at the is from Cobb.

Guests arrived wearing “Make America Great Again” hats and shirts and seated next to campaign signs that read: “Joe Biden, you’re fired!”

Carson previously told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution that he hoped Trump would “make a very good choice for the country” for his vice president and hinted that he might eventually take on another role in the administration.

“He has good political acumen and he knows what he needs to complement what he does himself,” Carson said.

“As far as I’m concerned, I’m dedicated to trying to save our country, whether I do it in the next administration, or whether I continue to do it with American Cornerstone,” he said, referring to his conservative think tank.
