Man arrested after shooting and chase in Claremont, police say

A Newport man was arrested after a shooting and chase in Claremont, police said.Claremont police said they were called to the Twistback Road area before 7 p.m. Tuesday for a report of shots fired. A Newport man was arrested following a shooting and chase in Claremont, police said.

Claremont police said they were called to the Twistback Road area before 7 p.m. Tuesday for a report of shots fired. Officers found shell casings in the area and witnesses described the vehicle, police said.

An officer later spotted the vehicle and attempted to stop it, but the vehicle did not stop and sped away at high speed, police said.

The vehicle crashed and the two people were arrested, police said.

Kaleb Potter, 20, of Newport, was charged with reckless handling of a deadly weapon, police said.

According to police, more charges are expected and the case remains under investigation.
