At least one person dies after tornado in Maury County

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) – At least one person has been reported dead in Maury County after a tornado ripped a nearly two-mile path through the forest.

The tornado destroyed several houses. Houses were torn apart as people sought shelter.

To some people in Maury County, they said the storm sounded like a train was approaching. When they opened their eyes, they saw daylight entering their homes.

“(It was) something you see in the movie The Twister,” Brianne Lovett said. “Metal covers everything. Your house is gone. You have nothing left. I mean, you have nothing left. I have my clothes and my crocodiles on my feet. That’s it. It’s all gone. Everything is gone.”

Officials from Columbia and Maury County are providing an update on the tornado on Wednesday.

The wind caused power lines to fall. Officials said it will likely take months to complete the entire cleanup process.

“Several homes were completely destroyed,” said Maury County Fire Department Deputy Chief Robert Schatz.

Schatz said it was just a matter of varying amounts of damage.

“All homes were subjected to a primary search,” Schatz said. “We no longer have any outstanding rescue operations.
