Elmira Police investigate shooting on Spaulding Street

Elmira police are investigating a shooting that occurred late Tuesday night.

Police said they received a report of shots fired on Spaulding Street just after 11 p.m. Tuesday.

The Chemung County Sheriff’s Office received a description of a vehicle leaving the area at a high rate of speed. The vehicle failed to comply with the stop and the individuals in the vehicle fled on foot to the Fulton Street area.

Sheriff’s deputies were able to arrest a suspect after a short foot pursuit. Several spent shell casings were allegedly found in the vehicle and several bullet holes were located on the vehicle. A firearm was also recovered in the area.

A residential building on Spaulding Street was hit several times and spent shell casings were found on the roadway. So far, no injuries have been reported as a result of the incident.

Police say it’s unclear if this incident is related to Monday night’s shooting near Gush’s Thirsty Bear.
