Morganton man arrested in meth trafficking case

Darren Keith Colvin, 58, of West Union Street in Morganton, was arrested by Morganton Public Safety officers on Sunday (May 5). He is charged with aggravated trafficking in methamphetamine, possession of a Schedule VI controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Late Saturday evening (May 4), a public safety officer responded to a report of a stranded motorist on West Fleming Drive in Morganton. The officer came into contact with Darren Keith Colvin at the scene. During the investigation, 30 grams of methamphetamine and 3.4 grams of marijuana were seized and Colvin was arrested.

According to the North Carolina Department of Adult Correction Offender Public Information website, Colvin has multiple convictions since 2005, all in Burke County. He has been convicted of felonies and misdemeanors, most recently in July 2021 for felony possession with intent to sell Schedule II controlled substances.

After Sunday’s arrest, Colvin was taken to the Burke County Jail, where he was held on $15,000 bail. He remained in prison as of today (May 8). Colvin’s next District Court appearance is scheduled for May 24.
